A new BMW does not need the largest PPF package in every case. This 2026 BMW X1 xDrive28i came to our Dunning shop from Norridge with fresh Cape York Green Metallic paint.
The owner uses his X1 for work and local errands. He drives on city streets most days and takes the Kennedy Expressway once or twice a week. He wanted to stop early paint damage but did not want to pay for low-risk areas.

2026 X1 xDrive28i is 177.2 inches long and 72.6 inches wide. Its wheelbase is 106 inches, and its curb weight is 3,750 pounds. It is a small SUV, but the wide bumper and tall front face still take hits from grit and small stones.
When you book a Full Front or Full Car PPF Wrap
The owner completed the form on our website and requested a quote for Full Front PPF. He had seen that it was safest to get a full hood coverage for a new BMW.
His biggest concern was the first chip in the rock. Chips and surface damage can still stand out against the Cape York Green Metallic finish, especially in direct light. He was aware that salt and grit from the roads in Chicago could accumulate during the winter. Choosing Full Front seemed like the simple solution. Nevertheless, we were curious about how he drove the car before we offered our advice.
Our team inquired about how many miles he drives each week, where he parks, and how he cleans his car. We also inquired about his plans for keeping the X1.
He travels around 8,000 miles every year. The majority of the journeys are less than 15 miles long. The car is kept in a garage at home and in a covered lot at work. After four or five years, he might sell it.
The front bumper still required a strong shield. The front part of the car’s hood and fenders also got hit by objects on the road. However, the amount he used the highway was not enough for Full Front to be the best option in terms of value.
The Partial Front package covers the front bumper, headlights, about 18 inches of the hood and part of the front fenders. Our site lists it as a one-day SUV service. Mirror caps are not part of the base package.

The rear part of the hood and most side panels stayed open. We told the owner that a chip could still happen outside the film. PPF lowers the risk. It cannot stop every type of damage.

Ultimate Plus keeps paint safe from rock chips, bug acids, bird droppings, light scratches and swirl marks. The top layer can fix small marks with heat. The film also does not turn yellow when exposed to UV light. Film replacement may still be necessary for deep cuts.
Clear Gloss maintained the original appearance of the X1.
Our PPF installer, Dmytro, said the aim was to protect the actual high-risk areas, not just to sell the most expensive package. “The owner spends a lot of time in the city. He would use the protection provided by Partial Front.”
The hands-on work took about four hours.
Our team checked the paint under shop lights. We washed the BMW and cleaned each panel. We then placed the pre-cut film on the bumper, hood section, fender sections and headlights. The door cups and luggage strip went on last.
The work was done that day, but the owner left the car with us overnight. The film and edges needed time to set.
The next morning, we checked the bumper corners, hood line, headlights and add-ons. We made sure the edges were flat before we gave the keys back.
We also told the owner not to use an automatic wash with strong water pressure during the first days. A hard water stream may catch an edge before the film has fully set.
