2026 Toyota RAV4 Full Front PPF Case Study: Protecting Ruby Flare Pearl Before Its First Chicago Winter

The first rock chip on our client’s old crossover showed up before its first oil change. More followed over the next few years. By the time she traded the car, the hood and front fenders showed the results of daily highway use.

She did not want the same thing to happen to her new 2026 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium.

The RAV4 came to our Palatine shop from Arlington Heights with only a few hundred miles on it. Its Ruby Flare Pearl paint was still free from road damage. The owner used our website form to ask one main question: “Do I need to cover the whole car to stop chips on red paint?” Our answer was no.

A Normal Week in This RAV4

The owner works in Schaumburg three days a week. Her route includes Route 53 and short parts of I-90. On other days, the RAV4 handles school pickup, grocery stops, and sports practice.

Her main risks were easy to group:

Stones, salt, bugs, and road dirt hit the front.
Nails, rings, and keys touch the door cups.
Bags and sports gear cross the rear loading edge.

Why Ruby Flare Pearl Changed the Plan

The owner picked Ruby Flare Pearl because she liked its deep red color and shine. She didn’t want shiny film, dull film, or colored PPF.

The satin front of the SUV would not go well with the glossy finish on the rest of the vehicle. The clear glossy film maintained the original appearance.

A Partial Front package covers the bumper, headlights, and the front part of the hood and fenders for protection. It is suitable for a car that is used mostly for city driving and has low mileage.

A row on the pearl hood may gather wax or dirt close to the film edge. Most of the front part of the car’s hood would still be exposed to small rocks getting lodged in it.

We indicated to the owner where to stop with a part of the kit. She was not happy with the amount of red paint left uncovered.

What Full Front Covered

Our Full Front package covered:

the full front bumper;
the full hood;
both full front fenders;
both headlights.

The hood received one full sheet. There was no line across the panel. We did not push Full Car PPF. The roof, upper doors, and rear side panels did not face the same road risk.

Why We Added Four Small Areas

The front package handled road impact. The add-ons handled daily contact.

The mirror covers can get damaged by small rocks and tight parking spots. The A-pillars can collect small rocks and dirt while driving. Each week the door handles are touched. The luggage strip keeps the bags and sports gear from damaging the upper rear bumper.

We did not include rocker panels. The owner didn’t notice a lot of damage on her previous cars.

Jada’s Notes: We Started With Her Week, Not a Package

When the owner arrived, I didn’t begin with three package names. I inquired about her usage of the RAV4.

She told me about her job, picking up the kids from school, driving on I-90, carrying groceries, and the kids’ sports on the weekend. We got a clear map. The front faced the street. Hands cupped the door. Bags and gear were positioned at the back edge.

She also wished to own the RAV4 for a minimum of six years. Using a partial hood could save money at first, but it would leave a lot of the red paint exposed for a while.

I pointed out to her where the partial film line would be. After seeing it, she decided to go with Full Front. We only included the small spaces that her family actually uses.

Why We Used XPEL Ultimate Plus

We used XPEL Ultimate Plus Clear Gloss. It can help protect paint from chips, light scratches, bug residue, bird droppings, and road tar. It does not stop every hard hit, and it still needs proper care.

The goal was simple. We wanted the covered panels to keep the same glossy Ruby Flare Pearl look as the rest of the SUV.

The clear film also made sense because covered and open panels sat next to each other. The owner did not want a clear change in color or shine between the front and rear of the RAV4.

Installation at Our Palatine Shop

The front bumper was the most time-consuming. The front of the 2026 RAV4 has many different angles and openings. We carefully looked at the corners and grille parts.

One complete film was given to the hood. Our team inspected the edge by the windshield, the front corners, and the areas around the headlights.

We put film on the mirror covers, door cups, A-pillars, and back loading edge.

The job lasted 24 hours. The RAV4 was left overnight so that we could inspect the edges the next morning.
