It all started when the owner didn’t call us after a stone caused a crack in the windshield. A baby stroller scraped against the rear bumper, and a basket of groceries left two light scratches near the trunk.
The plan has changed.
The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas SEL Premium R-Line did not initially require a front-end package. The family needed to protect the places they touched every day.

The car owner lives in Humboldt Park, which is a short distance from our West Town store. Our team completed the job at the Grand Ave shop.
The Atlas is a biiiig SUV for families. The length is 200.7 inches and the width is 78.3 inches. The SEL Premium R-Line has three rows, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, a 269-hp turbo engine, and starts at around $53,205 in 2026.
When you book a Full Front or Full Car PPF Wrap
The space can accommodate a stroller, groceries, sports bags, and boxes. Items usually land on the bumper before anything else. A zipper, plastic container, or stroller piece can cause damage to the paint if dragged across it.
The Atlas has 20.6 cubic feet of space for cargo behind the third row and about 96.8 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. People purchase it because it has a high carrying capacity. This also means that the back bumper gets used a lot.
An Atlas owner on Reddit saw wear in this exact spot. One reply said:
“These are scratches from loading items into the Atlas.”
Another owner gave a simple fix:
“I would consider a PPF strip on that rear trunk lip!”
The posts show how fast a cargo edge can get scratched.
Children open the back doors while wearing backpacks. The sides of the door may touch the wall, and rings can leave marks on the door handles. We put protection on all four door handles and the outer edges of the door.
Shoes touch the bottom of the doors, salt builds up on the sides, and sports bags go over the back of the car.
We put film on the bottom part of the car and the top part of the back bumper.
The mirror caps are at risk when parking in a tight space. The black pillars have water marks, and boxes are touching the edge of the luggage. We put protective covers on the mirror caps, B-pillars, rear luggage strip, and bumper loading area for that reason.

The custom project had a lot of little pieces and lengthy edges. It was still cheaper than Full Front and it covered the parts that were already showing signs of wear.
Every painted body panel would be covered by a Full Car PPF. The owner didn’t understand that. The Atlas is usually parked in a garage at night, so the family is not concerned about keeping all the doors and panels free from marks.
The Atlas has a broad front and a square-shaped hood. Both are exposed to small rocks and other objects on the road.
A new Atlas with a hood chip at around 2,000 miles is being discussed on Reddit.
Most of the trips stay in the areas of Humboldt Park, West Town, Ukrainian Village, and nearby city streets. The owner doesn’t travel on the highway for many hours every week.
He agreed to keep the hood open for the time being. If more people start using the highway, Full Front PPF might be implemented in the future.
That was the truthful answer. Rear and side protection did not eliminate the risk of the front-end. The current problem was dealt with first.
Deep Black Pearl is a really beautiful color. But, as Eric told us, dust, water spots, and minor wash marks show up quickly on a car like this. That’s why he decided to go with a clear film with a glossy finish and simple washing instructions.
The thickness of STEK DYNOshield is 8 mils. The topcoat keeps water away and prevents stains. Heat can decrease small marks on the surface. STEK also offers a 10-year guarantee against yellowing, bubbles, cracks, and film separation.
The shiny finish looked good on the black paint and B-pillars. The matte film will alter the appearance of the factory. Having a color PPF means covering the entire body of the car, and it’s much more expensive than this personalized design.
The long and low rocker sections required the most time to work on. Erik positioned the back strip in a way that bags can go over the edge without getting stuck on it. Different parts of the car, such as the mirrors, door cups, door edges, and pillars, were given their own individual pieces.
