Most PPF brands focus primarily on durability or thickness. Avery Dennison paint protection film is different – it’s chosen for one specific reason: visual finish.  For car owners with black paint, luxury vehicles, matte factory finishes, or anyone who parks next to a Lamborghini in Naperville, the appearance of the film matters as much as the protection underneath.

What Our Installers Say About Avery Dennison

After hundreds of installations in PPF WRAP shops, our Avery Dennison installer Jada shares her fair observations.  

Conformability. A Porsche 911 GT3  front bumper has seven compound curves in six inches. It’s so demanding when you use PPF. But Avery Dennison’s Nano-Fusion drapes like fabric – no relief cuts or visible seams.

Wet-apply precision. Dry-apply films grab instantly. A single mistake instantly turns into a waste of $200 of film. Avery’s slip solution gives us 60 seconds to reposition. A Tesla Model Y  rear bumper is one of the hardest panels in the industry – and with Avery, that’s the difference between perfection and frustration.

Neo color PPF. Vinyl wraps last 3 years in Chicago. Neo Matte Black is 8.5 mil thick which doubles the thickness of the vinyl. We installed it on a customer’s Audi RS6 . He drove I-90 all winter. In spring, we power-washed the film, and it looked brand new. Vinyl would have been sandblasted.

Chicago winters. Salt brine gets under cheap films at the edges. Avery’s adhesive stays flexible at -20°F. We’ve seen zero edge lift on cars that survived the 2025 season.

Avery Dennison is not the cheapest. But nothing else comes close for color change or satin finishes.

When We Don’t Recommend Avery Dennison Supreme Defense

We install multiple brands. Here are the five scenarios where a different film serves you better.

1. Your vehicle has deep black, dark navy, or exotic dark paint, and you want optical perfection under direct lighting.

The Supreme Defense topcoat can show a mild surface texture on very dark paint under direct overhead light. This effect is most visible on concours-level exotics and prestige factory finishes. On white, silver, grey, and standard metallic colors it is not visible under normal conditions.

Better fit is XPEL Ultimate Plus. Its nano-ceramic topcoat reduces surface texture on dark paint. We can show you a direct comparison on paint sample panels at any of our four locations.

2. You need a warranty that transfers to the next owner, and resale value is part of your calculation

Avery Dennison’s 10-year warranty covers the original vehicle owner. You cannot transfer it to a subsequent owner in many cases. If you plan to sell the vehicle before the warranty period ends and want the warranty to follow the car, check the current terms.

Better fit is XPEL Ultimate Plus. The XPEL warranty always works for subsequent owners.

3. You want color PPF in a specific shade right now.

Avery Dennison’s neo line currently offers two colors, with four additional colors announced for later in 2026. If you want red, blue, orange, or any color outside the current neo range, it’s better to use a film from a different brand.

Better fit is XPEL Color PPF. They have 16 colors currently available. If a specific color is your primary requirement, XPEL has the widest selection in the premium PPF category.

4. Your budget is tight.

Supreme Defense is one of the more expensive premium PPF options. For leased cars, short-term ownership, or second vehicles, it may be more than you need. You can find a lower-cost premium film that still provides strong protection at a better price.

Better fit is 3M Scotchgard Series 150. It’s approximately 10–15% less expensive at equivalent package levels, with a 10-year warranty and the same self-healing topcoat.

5. Your vehicle has simple, flat-panel geometry.

Supreme Defense is best for cars with lots of curves, where flexibility really matters. On cars with flat, simple panels, a basic film works just as well and costs less.

Better fit is 3M Scotchgard Pro Series 200 or SunTek Ultra. Both work well on flat panels, cost less and still provide real protection.
