SunTek Paint Protection Film – A PPF WRAP Installer’s Take

SunTek is made by Eastman Chemical Company, a large American manufacturer based in Tennessee. Eastman has been making films for over 65 years and owns the entire production process, from raw materials to the final roll.

SunTek originally started as its own brand under Commonwealth Laminating & Coating. In 2014, Eastman bought SunTek and poured money into new technology, including the Tetrashield top coat found in the Reaction line.

The Good

• You can slide a large hood piece into place without it grabbing prematurely.
• Finger smudges and dust are easier to push out because the adhesive doesn’t instantly cure.
• Reworking a panel after 10 minutes is still possible with a slip solution.

The Bad

• If your slip solution is too soapy (more than 1 oz per gallon), the film will never tack down.
• In cold shops (<18°C / 65°F), the adhesive becomes lethargic – you’ll fight edge lifting for hours.

A tip from Eric: Add a splash of isopropyl alcohol (5-10%) to your slip solution when working with SunTek in winter. It breaks surface tension and wakes up the PSA.

Also, remember about silvering. These are those white, milky streaks around stretched edges which happen when the adhesive lifts from the paint. SunTek is less prone than 3M, but more prone than XPEL. Keep stretch under 10% on flat panels.
