Upper shoulder and character line. The top part is mostly flat, but it has a sharp styling crease called the character line. The film must be cut to follow it precisely; otherwise, you will create a sloppy-looking ridge.
Mid-section and wheel arch. Here, the fender curves in two directions at once. For trucks and SUVs, you often need a two-piece film with a carefully placed seam.
Lower arch and inner edge. The arch lip takes the most wear. Film must wrap around the edge and stick inside the arch. If it stops at the edge, it will lift quickly from wheel movement and heat.

Step 1. Deep Cleaning of Hidden Edges
Fenders have a so-called return – the inner lip of the wheel well. This area is always caked with road tar and brake dust. We use high-pressure steam and strong degreasers to clean behind the lip of the wheel arch.
Step 2. Removing Side Markers and Emblems
Most modern fenders have flares, side-indicator lights (side markers), or trim pieces (like the “M” badge on BMWs or “V8” badges on trucks). We safely remove the side markers and badges for the installation and then reinstall them on top of the film.

Step 3. The Slip-and-Tack Step
Fenders are tricky because the film wants to slide down on the vertical surface. We start by spraying it so the film can move, then lock the top edge near the hood. After that, we gently stretch it down toward the wheel arch, keeping it smooth and even.
Step 4. Trimming and Tucking
For fenders, we use a bulk method, which means we start with a piece of film that’s bigger than the panel. We carefully trim it so there’s a small extra edge all around. Then we use heat to secure and tuck that edge behind the panel.

Pre-cut kits can leave a tiny 2–3mm gap along the hood line. Over time, wax collects in this gap and forms a visible sawtooth line.
✅ We slightly oversize the film and hand-tuck it inside the engine bay and door jamb. This hides the edge completely from view.

❌ Mistake 2. Silvering or Tearing Adhesive
Stretching the film over the fender flare can pull the adhesive too hard and leave silver-white streaks or permanent marks.
✅ We use a high-viscosity installation gel instead of soapy water. It keeps the adhesive lubricated longer, so the film stretches without damaging the glue.
❌ Mistake 3. Dirt Pockets in the Wheel Arch
The wheel arch is full of dust, salt, and grease. If the film isn’t tucked in deeply or cleaned well, it can lift and trap debris, and edges will peel.

❌ Mistake 4. Ghosting Around Badges and Side Markers
Cutting around emblems or turn signals leaves paint exposed and sometimes scratches the clear coat.

❌ Mistake 5. Fingers and Bubbles at Corners
The curved bottom corners often create “fingers”. Forcing the film with a squeegee traps air and water, forming bubbles later.

Pre-cut fender kits are cheaper ($250–$500) and work fine on simple flat panels. But fenders combine a large vertical area, tight arch radii, and the need for perfect blending with five other panels. Most DIY attempts show edge lifting, tension lines, misaligned body lines and trapped dust.

No, professionally applied PPF won’t affect it. The film should stop right at the edge of the fender, so the space between the fender and the door does not change. We do it in a way you won’t even notice it.
PPF on the fender usually covers the outside and wraps slightly around the edge of the wheel arch. It doesn’t protect the inside of the arch. If you want that area covered too, you’ll need a separate, stronger film or liner.
PPF can protect against small bumps and light contact. It may prevent scuffs, paint transfer, and minor chips. But it won’t stop a strong hit from causing a dent.
If installed properly, PPF shouldn’t be affected by normal tire changes – it’s not in the path of tire mounting equipment. The film usually wraps slightly inside the wheel arch and sticks securely to the surface.
No, that’s a serious mistake. Ceramic coatings are made to repel things, so the film won’t stick properly and can start lifting quickly. You should install PPF first and only then apply ceramic coating on top.
